Vijayawada: In a tragic accident near Gundaleru in Railway Koduru mandal of Annamayya district early on Monday morning, a lorry collided with an auto-rickshaw, killing two people and seriously injuring four others. The deceased were identified as Pathan Suhail Khan (15) and his grandmother, Pathan Zahara Bee (64).
According to police, Zahara Bee was taking her five grandchildren — Suhail, Abdulla, Shaheeda, Farhana, and Zubeda — to her house in Tirupati as it was their summer vacation. The group hired an auto-rickshaw from Gundaleru to travel to Tirupati.
As the auto approached the Gundaleru main road, a lorry coming from the opposite direction rammed into their vehicle, resulting in the fatal crash. Suhail and Zahara Bee died on the spot, while the other four sustained serious injuries.
Locals rushed to the scene and moved the injured to Railway Koduru Govt Hospital for first aid. They were later referred to Ruia Hospital in Tirupati for advanced treatment due to the severity of their injuries.
Police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances leading to the accident.
