Unwritten Muhurat to Bring Festive Cheer, Traditional Rituals and Marriages in Full Swing

Jodhpur, April 29 — The auspicious Hindu festival Akshaya Tritiya, marking Vaishakh Shukla Tritiya, will be celebrated on April 30 (Wednesday), coinciding with Parshuram Jayanti. This year, the day will fall under the Sarvartha Siddhi Yoga, making it an exceptionally favorable time for auspicious events, especially weddings, as the day is considered an Abujh Muhurat — a time not requiring further astrological consultation.

Religious and cultural activities will take place across both urban and rural areas, with families participating in marriage ceremonies, religious offerings, and traditional purchases.

Peak Wedding Season Set to Return

Unlike last year when celebrations were subdued due to Tara Asta (inauspicious planetary phase), this year is expected to witness a surge in weddings and other auspicious ceremonies. Akshaya Tritiya is known as a sacred time for starting new ventures and acquiring gold and silver, which is believed to bring everlasting prosperity.

The festival begins at 5:31 PM on April 29 and concludes at 2:31 PM on April 30. According to the Udayatithi system, major rituals and observances will be held on April 30.

Traditional ‘Dhani’ Ritual to Predict Prosperity

The Ghanchi community will uphold their centuries-old tradition of the Dhani ritual, which is believed to indicate agricultural prosperity and climatic conditions for the coming year. The ritual will be conducted by the Sojatiya Bas Ghanchi Samaj Vikas Samiti at Baiji ka Talab between 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM on April 30.

Committee President Gangaram Solanki stated that the practice involves symbolic rituals to forecast the likelihood of drought or surplus. Two young boys will participate in the ritual, a customary feature of the event. Secretary Kamlesh Bhati explained that signs observed during the ritual help determine the agricultural and weather patterns expected in the year ahead.

Jain Saints to Deliver Spiritual Discourses

The festival also holds special significance for the Jain community, where over 255 tapasvis (austerity practitioners) will take vows for the Ekantaar Tap, a form of alternate-day fasting. Hundreds of devotees are expected to gather for discourses, rituals, and acts of charity.

Rajesh Karnavat, the event coordinator, confirmed that a large-scale discourse session will be held at Chauradiya Bhawan, opposite Hanuwant Garden on Paota B Road, Jodhpur, where devotees will engage in listening to Jinvani (spiritual teachings) and partake in various religious observances.
