BMW R 1300 RS and R 1300 RT Unveiled Globally with 145 bhp Boxer-Twin Engine

BMW Motorrad expands its 1300cc lineup with two powerful touring machines — the R 1300 RS sports tourer and the R 1300 RT luxury tourer. India launch yet to be announced.

BMW R 1300 RS and R 1300 RT Make Global Debut

BMW Motorrad has officially unveiled the R 1300 RS and R 1300 RT, expanding its 1300cc motorcycle portfolio. The R 1300 RS is a sport-oriented tourer, while the R 1300 RT offers luxury touring capabilities. These new models replace the outgoing R 1250 RS and R 1250 RT, respectively, as part of BMW’s move toward higher displacement, performance-focused offerings.

Both motorcycles join the brand’s recently launched R 1300 R, R 1300 GS, and R 1300 GS Adventure models. Although revealed globally, BMW Motorrad has not confirmed the India launch timeline for the RS and RT models.

Engine and Performance: Boxer-Twin with 145 bhp

The R 1300 RS and R 1300 RT are powered by BMW’s new 1300cc boxer-twin engine, which was first introduced on the R 1300 GS. Key specifications include:

• Power output: 145 bhp @ 7,750 rpm

• Peak torque: 149 Nm @ 6,500 rpm

• Transmission: 6-speed gearbox with shaft drive

This engine makes both motorcycles the most powerful boxer-twin models in BMW’s touring lineup. The R 1300 RS boasts a top speed of 240 km/h, while the R 1300 RT is capable of exceeding 200 km/h.

Suspension, Braking, and Hardware

BMW has equipped both motorcycles with high-end touring hardware:

• Front Suspension: Motorrad EVO-Telelever

• Rear Suspension: Motorrad EVO-Paralever with cast aluminum single-sided swingarm

• Tyres/Wheels: 120/70 ZR17 (front) and 190/55 ZR17 (rear)

• Brakes:

  • Front: Twin 310 mm discs with 4-piston calipers

  • Rear: Single 285 mm disc with 2-piston caliper

• Safety: BMW Motorrad Full Integral ABS Pro standard

While both bikes share components, suspension travel differs to suit their respective touring styles.

Touring Features and Positioning

• R 1300 RS: Geared toward sporty riders looking for agility and speed on longer journeys

• R 1300 RT: Designed for long-distance comfort, offering enhanced luxury and wind protection

These motorcycles are expected to compete with high-end touring models from brands like Ducati, Harley-Davidson, and KTM.

India Launch Awaited

BMW Motorrad India is yet to confirm when the R 1300 RS and R 1300 RT will arrive in the Indian market. Given the popularity of the 1250 series and the rising demand for luxury tourers in India, an official announcement is anticipated in the coming months.
