More than 1,000 Iranian citizens entered the United States during the presidency of Donald Trump's predecessor Joe Biden, according to attorney general Pam Bondi .
"I am unsure," Bondi said on Monday in response to a question during a House budget hearing about Iranians who entered America illegally during the Biden administration.
"But more than 1,000 (Iranians) entered during the last administration. And I can tell you, we (Department of Justice) are on high alert, and everyone is looking at that very closely," she added.
US Border Patrol agents arrested 1,504 Iranians at the southern border (with Mexico) during President Joe Biden’s term, 729 of them were released into the United States, Fox News reported citing a senior Customs and Border Protection source.
Meanwhile, Bondi refused to answer a question on the threat of Iranian "sleeper cells" in America, saying that she could "not talk about that in this setting."
The attorney general's questioning was held amid heightened US-Iran tensions , and a day after US forces targeted three key nuclear sites in the Asian country. With this, America entered the conflict between its ally Israel and Iran, centred around the Islamic Republic's nuclear programme.
