US President Donald Trump has issued a direct warning to top pharmaceutical companies , demanding they slash drug prices or prepare to face action.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Thursday that Trump has "signed 17 letters to pharmaceutical companies' CEOs to solve the problem of exorbitant pharmaceutical pricing."
The letters, posted publicly on Trump’s Truth Social platform, outline the administration’s stance that the current pricing of essential medications is unacceptable.
“President Trump believes the American people deserve affordable access to life-saving drugs,” Leavitt said. “These letters make clear: cut the prices, or face the consequences.”
While the White House has not detailed what specific consequences companies could face, Trump has previously floated price caps, importation from other countries, and executive orders to bring prices down.
