NEW DELHI: The National Investigation Agency ( NIA ) has got the interim bail of Shahbaz Ansari cancelled after he went missing. Ansari was arrested in December 2022 for allegedly supplying arms and ammunition to gangster Lawrence Bishnoi .
A special NIA court cancelled the bail after the agency said that Ansari had misled the court to get temporary release.
"The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has secured the cancellation of the interim bail of Shahbaz Ansari, arrested in December 2022 for supplying arms and ammunition to gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, after he went missing. The NIA Special Court accepted the counter-terror agency’s application for Ansari’s bail cancellation on the plea that the accused had obtained relief on misleading grounds. Ansari had obtained interim bail last month from a vacation judge on the false pretext that his wife had to undergo surgery. He has since absconded, and the NIA has launched a manhunt for him," an NIA official was quoted as saying by the news agency ANI.
The agency said, "a manhunt has been launched to trace Ansari, who is now on the run."
"Authorities suspect he may be attempting to evade further legal proceedings in the arms supply case linked to organised crime networks," said the NIA.
