How to catch PSI Pokemon Abra and earn XP during the Spotlight Hour

Send Push
Pokémon GO April 29, 2025 Spotlight Hour features the elusive Psychic-type Pokémon Abra . It is a chance for the trainers to rack up the XP during the scheduled hours. But with just an hour to get your hands on the Pokémon, how do you make the most out of the event? Here is how you can use every second of the game to ensure efficient play.

Before the clock starts to tick, clear the Pokémon storage. As Abra is notorious for fleeing, your speed will be key. Stock up on the Razz Berries, Golden Razz Berries, and Ultra Balls to increase the chances of the catch. Make sure to stick to the areas with the dense PokéStop clusters or the parks and malls for constant spawns. You can even activate the Incense to attract some extra Abra.

Do not waste your time appraising the catches mid-event. Use the Quick Catch trick— hold the Poké Ball menu and then throw. It will help you to skip the animations and immediately target the spawn. The Pinap Berries will double the candy gains, which is crucial to evolving Abra later on. Make sure to give priority to the catches over the Shiny checks (Spotlight Hour between 6 pm and 7 pm increases your chance to catch a Shiny).

Earn Double XP with ease during Spotlight Hour

2x Catch XP is the bonus stack with the Lucky Eggs. It means every successful catch will net you 4x XP. To maximize the gain, activate the Lucky Egg before the start of the event (6:00 PM).

Give priority to both Excellent and Great Throws and the consistent Curveballs, as they offer bonus XP. If you are quick, you can easily earn 2,000+ XP with every catch. Combine it with some fast-catching techniques, and you will catch more Pokémon in less time.

After the event, make sure to trade the duplicate Abra with your friends and earn some extra candy and a shot at the Lucky Pokémon. To evolve Abra to Kadabra and then Alakazan through trade will save your Candy. So, make sure to coordinate the swaps in advance. Also, save the evolutions for the other Lucky Egg session to double evolution XP.

For the Mega Alakazam, you will need Mega Energy from the raids. But the Spotlight Hour is all about catching Pokémon and the XP farming. So, save the Mega Evolution for a later time and date.

Look closer for Shiny Abra

Shiny Abra is not only rare but also sneaky. The Pokémon usually has yellow fur, but it shifts to a pale and buttery shade, making it easier to miss in the rush. You can even manually check each catch or enable the Shiny tab vibration (the feature in the settings) to avoid skipping one. While the Shiny rates will not get a boost, catching 100+ Abra will improve your odds.

If you catch a Shiny, evolve it after the event. Kadabra and Alakazam’s Shiny versions boast bold purple accents, while Mega Alakazam has a psychic aura which is a show-stealer. Remember that the Shinies cannot flee until you engage with them. So, take your time after you spot the sparkle.

What’s next in Pokémon Go?

After the Abra hour, Furfrou will take the spotlight on May 6, 2025, flaunting the customizable trims. It might also bring the Mega Kangaskhan Raid Day and Growing Up event, featuring the boosted shinies.

Also, the Trainers must gear up as the Abra Spotlight Hour is the ticket for them to level up and dominate the battles. Make sure to stay sharp and throw straight. May your Shiny odds be in your favor. Happy hunting!
