The National Stock Exchange ( NSE ), India’s largest equity bourse, on Sunday announced plans to invest Rs 380 crore in building a new facility for cancer treatment at the Tata Memorial Hospital (TMH).

The 11-storey NSE multi-speciality hospital block and bone marrow transplant (BMT) centre will be constructed at the TMH-run Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research and Education in Cancer (ACTREC) in Navi Mumbai, officials said, PTI reported.

Groundbreaking for the project, which is being built by L&T, was conducted on Sunday. The BMT centre is expected to be the largest of its kind in India.

The facility is projected to handle around 1.3 lakh outpatient visits annually, conduct over 600 BMT procedures, and have 60 beds. Spread over 2.4 lakh sq ft, the centre is expected to commence operations by July 2027.

Funded under NSE’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, the project was approved by the NSE board in March 2023. “Our aim is to support the healthcare needs of cancer patients and their families, and to contribute meaningfully to the fight against cancer in India. We believe this project will have a lasting impact on the lives of thousands of patients each year,” NSE Managing Director and CEO Ashishkumar Chauhan said.

TMH Director Sudeep Gupta noted that thousands of patients currently await BMT treatment. “The new hospital block will address a critical gap in specialized services for treating comorbidities such as cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, renal and gastroenterological issues in cancer patients, for which patients often have to seek care at other hospitals, as ACTREC has so far been a standalone cancer centre,” he said.
