Kanpur: Two youths died after a speeding vehicle hit their two-wheeler near the ITBP gate in the Sarsaul area of the district on Monday night.
The two, after attending a neighbour's wedding ceremony in Narwal, were returning when the accident occurred. Police informed the families, who were devastated upon seeing the bodies. The police are reviewing the CCTV footage to identify the vehicle driver.
Ganesh Paswan, a resident of Ambarpur village in Maharajpur, is a farmer. His family includes his wife, Shalini Devi, and three sons--Biru, Sagar, and 18-year-old Vinay.
Ganesh said that on Monday evening, his son Vinay had gone to a neighbour's son's wedding with his friend, 18-year-old Shiva, on a motorcycle. Late at night, while returning, a speeding vehicle hit their bike near the ITBP gate in Sarsaul. Vinay and Shiva were thrown off, sustaining severe injuries.
The Maharajpur police after getting information about the accident, contacted the families using a mobile found with them. Vinay died on the spot, while Shiva, who was riding pillion, died enroute to the hospital.
Ganesh said that Vinay, who ran a bike service shop, was returning at night to open the shop in the morning. Shiva's father, Sunil alias Manoj, who works in a private firm, said that Shiva also worked in a factory. Shiva's mother, Puja, and younger brother, Shani, were inconsolable upon seeing his body.
Maharajpur police station officer Sanjay Pandey said that, "Efforts are underway to identify the vehicle using CCTV footage from the area. A report has been filed based on the family's complaint, and further action is being taken."
