MUMBAI: The state cabinet on Tuesday approved a compensation of Rs 50 lakh each for the families of the victims killed in the recent Pahalgam terror attack.
Immediately after the incident, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis had announced an interim compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the bereaved families.
Six tourists who were on holiday with their families lost their lives in the attack. The victims include Santosh Jagdale and Kaustubh Ganavate (both from Pune); three maternal cousins — Hemant Joshi, Sanjay Lele, and Atul Mone (all from Dombivli); and Dilip Disle from Panvel.
CM Fadnavis also declared that the state government would support the victims’ families through education and employment assistance. He had earlier assured a government job for Asawari Jagdale, the daughter of Santosh Jagdale. Exercising his special powers, the chief minister on Tuesday formally approved a government job for a member of the Jagdale family during the cabinet meeting.
The Maharashtra government also arranged special flights to evacuate 800 tourists stranded in Jammu and Kashmir.
Deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde, in his personal capacity, facilitated the return of 520 tourists and announced Rs 5 lakh in compensation to the family of Syed Adil Hussain Shah — a pony ride operator who was killed by terrorists while shielding a tourist and protesting the attack.
