Shower screens can quickly become unsightly after you've cleaned them, even when they're not truly filthy, causing embarrassment when guests drop in unexpectedly.
You might think to reach for a cheap glass cleaner, but TikTok's @jetlagremedy, a cleaning guru, has shared a brilliant tip for spotless glass. "How I clean glass as a professional cleaner", she said in her trending clip.
"I'm gonna show you how I personally clean a shower screen as a professional cleaner. First up, I've got some spray which is [dish] detergent and water", she explained. She then liberally sprayed "the entirety of the screen" with the mixture, "both inside and outside".
She then recommended polishing the screen with a "cloth or a soft sponge". "I personally find that doing circular motions helps", she added.
For those with a fixed shower head that can't be directed at the screen, she suggested using "a bucket" or "a bottle of water" for rinsing. She demonstrated this by pouring water over the top edge of the screen, allowing it to flow down like shower water.
Next, she took a squeegee to remove "as much of that water off" as she could.
To get that immaculate finish, she advised drying with a microfibre cloth. For an additional gleam, she likes to "use Windex or a homemade glass cleaner paired with a glass cloth".
Spray it on both sides and then use a glass cloth to polish it off. The result?
She said you'd have "no soap scum, no smudge marks", just "an extremely clean glass panel."
The expert cleaner advised: "You can also shine up those metal parts with some steel cleaner."
Why is it a good idea to use natural cleaning products?Chemical-free cleaning products are popular because they are generally safer for your health and the environment. Traditional cleaning products may contain harsh chemicals that can cause skin irritation, respiratory problems, and other health issues, especially for people with allergies or sensitivities.
In contrast, chemical-free options use natural ingredients like vinegar, baking soda, or plant-based extracts, which are less likely to cause adverse reactions.
Additionally, these products are often biodegradable and less likely to pollute water sources or harm wildlife. Many people also prefer chemical-free cleaners because they reduce the risk of toxic residues on surfaces, making them a safer choice for homes with children or pets.
Always be sure to check the ingredients of any cleaners you use, natural or otherwise. You may want to consider testing them in a small part of your home before use.
