Summertime is an exciting period for the most part. However, the warm temperatures can come with its fair share of issues, including an increase in pest activity, particularly an annoying eight-legged creature.
Spiders become more active during the summer as the hot weather sends them straight into homes where they look for cooler environments and food sources. While you can hire professional pest control services to deal with the issue, having to fork out hundreds of pounds isn't ideal for everyone, and with there being plenty of cheaper methods to banish the creatures, what's the point of spending all that money? Instead, using this one natural ingredient could quickly send the little pests packing and save your pockets.
Spiders hate strong odours and peppermint is one of them. The strong smell of peppermint disturbs spiders sensory receptors which makes it an effective spider repellent.
Experts at Aspin FM, a cleaning and facilties management company, revealed the cheap solution and the different ways to use it, with each one being straightforward.
The first way to use peppermint is to fill an empty spray bottle with water, and add 10 to 15 drops of peppermint essential oil. Spray the mixture in areas where spiders tend to enter the space and hide.
Alternatively, you could add a few drops of peppermint oil onto a ball of cotton wool and place them in areas that spiders may enter the area, such as holes or by windows.
The last method is simply purchasing a peppermint-scented candle, reed diffuser or a plug-in aroma to help spread the scent around your home.
And, just like that you have three ways of preventing spiders from entering your home, costing much less than an expensive pest control visit.
Although the spiders we see in the UK tend to be harmless, no one wants them invading their homes and crawling around their properties or belongs.
Therefore, taking steps to prevent them from entering is key, and with these simple instructions you won't just get rid of them but will stop them from coming back resulting in a spider-free home.
