Princess Kate's touching comment to Wimbledon runner-up Amanda Anisimova

Princess Kate offered kind words of encouragement to an emotional Amanda Anisimova after she was defeated in the women's singles Wimbledon final to the dominant winner Iga Swiatek.

The Polish champion won 6-0, 6-0 against the American who was consoled by Kate after the extraordinary scoreline. Walking up to collect her second-place award on Centre Court, the future queen consort offered support to Anisimova who had been left in tears.

According to expert lip reader Jeremy Freeman, Kate told her: "You should be so proud, well done, and enjoy yourself."

Kate, 43, beamed earlier in the afternoon when she arrived at Wimbledon and made her way to the royal box to a standing ovation.

After looking out at the cheering crowd, Jeremy then interpreted her as saying: "Sweet, very nice to hear."

It was a moving moment for the princess who thanked the 15,000 fans who gave her such a special welcome.

Moments earlier she shook hands with former Wimbledon champion Martina Navratilova, 68, before greeting tennis legend Billie Jean King, 81, who curtsied to her.

And after Billie asked how she was, she replied: "Beautiful."

Kate stunned in a chic cream ensemble that was accessorised with the Wimbledon purple and green bow pinned to the left-hand side of her shirt.

She was also joined in the royal box by big names like Adam Peaty and Holly Ramsay, Stanley Tucci, Greta Gerwig, Mo Farah, and Sam Mendes.

Kate is in remission from cancer after she announced the shocking diagnosis in March of last year. She has since spoken about adjusting to a "new normal" and has slowly returned to public duties.

The princess is a patron of the All England Law Tennis Club and she stood yards away from winner Swiatek during the trophy presentation.

Speaking to the crowd, Poland's first ever Wimbledon champion said: "First of all I want to congratulate Amanda for an amazing two weeks no matter what happened today. I hope we're going to play many more finals here and at other tournaments.

"I didn't even dream [about winning] because it was way too far, I feel like I'm already an experienced player after winning the slams before but I never really expected this one."

Runner-up Ansimova meanwhile said: "Iga, you're such an incredible player, obviously showed today. You've been such an inspiration to me, an unbelievable athlete. Congratulations to you and your team."
