The M5 motorway was closed after a serious crash, sparking major delays. The collision happened at around 9.30am on Sunday between junction 28 for Cullompton and junction 29 for Exeter Airport. An air ambulance landed at the scene, and both directions were initially shut to allow emergency services to respond. Police said the crash involved several vehicles, but no one was thought to have been seriously injured.
The northbound carriageway reopened late morning, while the southbound side remained closed for debris clearance. National Highways confirmed just before 1pm that the southbound carriageway had reopened, though lane one remains closed for collision clear-up work. "Minimal delays on approach," the agency said. Earlier, drivers were diverted via the B3181 through Cullompton, Westcott, Budlake and Broadclyst before rejoining the M5 at junction 30.
