Former Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson has expressed his gratitude to the medical staff after being rushed to hospital with a horrific injury. The right-back was representing League Two outfit Bromley at the weekend during their clash against Millwall.
His afternoon was cut brutally short as he was left writhing in agony after attempting to thwart a Millwall attack. Medical personnel raced onto the pitch to assist Jenkinson, who required gas and air for pain relief.
The match was temporarily paused as Jenkinson was carried off the pitch on a stretcher, before being transferred to hospital where it was confirmed he had dislocated his hip.
Jenkinson has now spoken out about the horror ordeal and praised doctors for their rapid response, whilst vowing to make his comeback at the earliest opportunity.
In a statement released through Bromley, he said: "Just wanted to put something out there to say a big thank you to the people who rallied around to help me on Saturday. The paramedics, doctors, nurses and everyone at PRU Hospital. It's only when you are in a time of need that you realise how incredible these people really are.
"Thanks to everyone at the club who has helped me through the last couple of days. Bromley is a football club that is growing very quickly but the soul of the club remains incredibly tight-knit and steadfast.
"Unfortunately these setbacks are part and parcel of the game we love, and you have to take the rough with the smooth. As you get a bit older you come to appreciate every second you have on the pitch, because you learn that in sport it can be taken away from you at any moment.
"I feel a deep sadness writing this knowing it's going to be a while until I can play again, but that pre-match feeling and the thought of stepping out onto the pitch with the boys again already gives me the fire in my belly to tackle this process head on.
"To my team mates, the Gaffer, the coaching staff, the Chairman, and everyone who works for Bromley, thanks for your love and support. I'll be back out there to play my part as soon as I can in what I know is going to be a great season. See you soon, Jenko."
The 33-year-old Jenkinson made 70 appearances for Arsenal during his stint from 2011 to 2019. He subsequently moved to Nottingham Forest, whilst also enjoying spells with Australian clubs Melbourne City and Newcastle Jets.
The defender joined Bromley last season, featuring in 13 matches across all competitions. They begin their League Two campaign with an away fixture against Shrewsbury Town this Saturday.
