A large fire has broken out at a furniture business on Tyburn Road in Erdington, Birmingham, with pictures showing smoke billowing above the area. Around 60 firefighters are tackling the blaze after West Midlands Fire Service was called just before 4.55pm on Monday, June 30. The fire forced the closure of the A38 in both directions between Salford Circus, near Junction 6 of the M6, and Wheelwright Road.
Smoke could be seen for miles and is affecting traffic on the M6. Local residents have been urged to keep doors and windows shut, and drivers are being warned of "major disruption" during rush hour. In a statement, the West Midlands Fire Service said: "Just before 4.55pm on Monday 30 June, Staffordshire and West Midlands Fire Control started to receive multiple 999 calls reporting a fire in Erdington, Birmingham.
"As of 6.30pm, around 12 fire engines and 60 firefighters were involved in the operation to bring the fire under control. The premises, on Tyburn Road close to the M6 motorway/Spaghetti Junction, belong to an office furniture company. Local residents are asked to keep doors and windows shut as a precaution. The police are assisting with a number of local road closures, and motorists are advised to find alternative routes where possible."
