The Great British Sewing Bee viewers had the same complaint as the BBC One programme aired this evening at 9 p.m. - and took to social media to vent their frustrations. It's week eight of the 2025 competition, and the five remaining contestants took a trip to the movies with three challenges inspired by legendary cinema moments from bygone decades.
As part of the pattern challenge, judges Esme Young and Patrick Grant wanted the finalists to recreate the jacket worn by Tippi Hedren's character in Alfred Hitchcock's classic horror The Birds. For the transformation challenge, the sewers were given tiebacks and red cinema curtains and tasked with transforming the fabric into stunning outfits fit for a Hollywood red carpet event.
For the made-to-measure segment of the programme, the contestants had to design an outfit for a character from a horror movie.
However, as the episode got underway, fans took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to fume over the fact that the show clashed with the new series of The Great British Bake Off over on Channel 4.
The cookery show returned to screens this evening at 8pm for a 90-minute opening episode of its all-new series, with chefs Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood returning as judges.
One person penned: "Would be interested to see stats on how many viewers switch over from Bake Off on Channel 4 to BBC1 for Sewing Bee at 9! Who decided a bl**dy overlap was a good idea?"
A second added: "Glad [GBBO] is back, but I wish it didn't overlap with Sewing Bee." A third raged in capital letters: "UNACCEPTABLE OVERLAP." A fourth wrote: "I'm more annoyed about the clash of Bake Off and Sewing Bee."
However, not everyone was enraged. One person wrote, "Great British Bake Off followed by sewing bee!!! Life doesn't get any better!" Meanwhile, another said, "Great British Bake Off and Sewing Bee both in one night, Luvley Jubbly! Enjoy your evening all."
The Great British Sewing Bee continues next Tuesday at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
