Newcastle are reportedly eyeing Champions League winner Goncalo Ramos as a potential successor to Alexander Isak. Isak has made clear his intention to depart this summer, with Liverpool seeing a substantial bid turned down for the Swedish striker.

The Magpies are actively seeking replacements for Isak, with Benjamin Sesko emerging as their primary target. However, Manchester United are also circling the 21-year-old, leaving Newcastle to consider alternative options. According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle are ready to pivot to other targets should Sesko favour a move to Old Trafford.

The report suggests that Paris Saint-Germain's Ramos has surfaced as a backup plan.

Ramos netted 19 times in 46 outings across all competitions last term, helping PSG secure the Champions League, Ligue 1 title and Coupe de France.

It's understood Newcastle initially explored signing Ramos three years ago before Isak's arrival, with PSG reportedly willing to sanction his departure this summer.

This comes as Newcastle manager Eddie Howe addressed Isak's situation, with the striker returning for training on Monday before their Premier League campaign begins later this month.

"You have to earn the right to train with us," Howe declared.

"We are Newcastle United. The player has a responsibility here to be part of a team and part of a squad - you have to act in the right way. So that is also at play here.

"We will make sure that any player does that to earn the right to train with the group. No player can expect to act poorly and train with the group as normal. Of course I'd like him to be (there), but whether he will I don't know at this moment in time.

"We have been here with the time difference, preparing for training and for games. Other people have been dealing with that situation back at home."

Newcastle value Isak at £150m and Howe has admitted the situation is "far from ideal", stating: "I think from my situation, I am very much removed from everything that is happening back home. I was made aware there was a bid.

"That bid was turned down before I heard about it. There are people back in England dealing with the situation. I really don't know what is going to happen next, but from our perspective, we still support Alex in every way, and my wish is still that we see him in a Newcastle shirt again.

"I know where he is through the media, so I think from that perspective it's difficult for me to go into any detail. The situation is far from ideal. It is quite complex. I think that is all I have got to say."
