Mumbai: Rajinikanth-starrer ‘Coolie’ left cash registers ringing at the box office, but Aamir Khan’s cameo in the film failed to impress the audience.
During promotions of the film, Aamir had shared that he took up the role without even reading the script as he wanted to work with Rajinikanth.
Now, a viral post has claimed that Aamir has called his cameo in Rajini’s ‘Coolie’ purposeless.
According to the screenshot circulating on X, Aamir apparently told a news portal, “I accepted the cameo for Rajini saab. To be honest, I still can’t figure out what my character was meant to do… It felt like I just walked in, said a line or two, and disappeared. There was no real purpose, no thought behind it. It was badly written.”
“I thought it would be a fun appearance, but clearly, it didn’t land. Itna reaction milega, socha nahi tha. But looking back, I understand why people were disappointed. The scene didn’t work — simple as that. It was a big mistake and one that I’ll be very careful about in the future,” Aamir reportedly said.
However Aamir’s team dismissed the viral report, and issued a clarification stating that the report and post is fake.
“Mr Aamir Khan has given no such interview and has made no negative comments about the film Coolie. Mr. Khan has the highest regard for Mr. Rajinikanth, Mr. Lokesh, and in fact the entire team of Coolie. The film has done over 500 Cr at the box office, which speaks for itself,” Aamir’s team stated.
Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, ‘Coolie’ turned out to be one of the year’s biggest hits, crossing Rs 500-crore mark.
