The monsoon of 2025 has been unusual and extremely active in history so far. This time both the intensity and frequency of rain have doubled, causing floods, landslides and destabilization of life in many parts of the country. Heavy devastation has been witnessed especially in North India, Northeast, Himalayan region and Punjab.
The speed and devastation of the monsoon
- This year the monsoon has been much faster than normal, causing rivers to overflow in many areas from North India to the Northeast.
- Landslides and cloudbursts have caused heavy damage in hilly states like Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Arunachal Pradesh. Red alert has already been issued in Shimla, Bilaspur, Sirmaur, Solan, Una.
- The worst floods in decades have caused massive destruction in Punjab. The overflowing rivers have broken canals, destroyed thousands of hectares of crops and displaced lakhs of people.
IMD warning: Heavy rain in September
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned in its recently released monthly weather forecast that September 2025 is likely to receive about 109% more rainfall than normal. The average rainfall for this month may remain above 167.9 mm, which will further increase the risk of floods and landslides.
- IMD Director General Mrityunjay Mahapatra said that in the last four decades, there has been an increase in the intensity of rainfall in the month of September.
- In August 2025, northwest India recorded a record rainfall of 265 mm, the highest in the last 100 years.
Fear of disaster in North India
- Heavy rains in many parts of Uttarakhand, Himachal, Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan in September are likely to cause landslides, flash floods and floods.
- Many religious pilgrimages like Amarnath and Vaishno Devi Yatra, which are the lifeline of the region, have been affected due to rains and landslides.
- The state administration and the central government have already issued red and orange alerts in many areas.
Western disturbance and delay in the monsoon
Weather experts believe that a major reason for the monsoon's activity this time is the frequent western disturbances, which are affecting the direction and speed of the monsoon. Due to this, the monsoon will return late in September, due to which the month of September can also become a stronghold of excessive rainfall.
Baba Vanga's prediction: Threat of flood?
Baba Vanga's prediction indicates several natural disasters by the end of 2025, including severe drought, floods, earthquakes, and abnormal temperature rise.
- More than 800 people were killed in a devastating earthquake that struck Afghanistan in recent months.
- A strong earthquake has also been recorded recently in Russia.
- The events predicted by Baba Vanga include the 9/11 attacks, the Chernobyl nuclear accident, the disintegration of the Soviet Union, the death of Princess Diana and the 2004 tsunami, which adds to the credibility of her predictions.
Could the threat of a flood come true?
There is growing concern about Baba Venga's deluge prediction amid this year's record monsoon, heavy rainfall, floods, and landslides. However, this potential disaster can be controlled with scientific warning and preparation.
Only preparation and vigilance will save lives- The administration and disaster management department will have to focus on public awareness, along with quick action.
- Better arrangements for drainage, timely transfer of people to safer places, and complete vigilance are necessary.
