Amazon Prime Day kicks off today, Tuesday, July 8. Despite its name, the deals bonanza is a four-day sale, with reductions in many departments, including a big focus on tech. As with the majority of Amazon's deals events, it also sees significant reductions on its own-brand devices, including popular Echo Dots.
The Echo Dot (Newest Gen) has been knocked down to £30, from £54.99 and is available in three hues - charcoal, blue and white. Users can enjoy music, audiobooks, and podcasts from Amazon Music, Audible, Apple Music, Spotify and more, via Wi-fi or Bluetooth.
Alexa can be used for everything, including weather updates, timers, answers, and even playful interactions. The Echo Dot (Newest Gen) is also compatible with smart home devices. It can sync with multiple compatible Echo devices or can be paired with a Fire TV.

Although Amazon's Echo Dot line leads in smart home tech, there are alternatives out there. For instance, SWITCHBOT's Hub Mini (£33.32, Currys), works with Alexa, Siri, and Google Assistant and can be paired with a smart speaker to control home devices with voice commands.
Another popular home tech device is a Ring Doorbell. The 2024 edition is £99 at Argos and is designed with several features, including Head-to-Toe View, Person Alerts, and Package Alerts. The latter two send real-time notifications to an owner's phone whenever a visitor or delivery arrives.
The Echo Dot (Newest Gen) has more than 42,000 reviews and an overall customer satisfaction rating of 4.7 on Amazon. One customer said: "I’m extremely happy with all my Alexa purchases! Everything works seamlessly, and the setup is always quick and easy."
They continued: "Whether it’s controlling smart devices, playing music, or getting quick updates, Alexa makes daily life more convenient. Highly recommend for anyone looking to upgrade their smart home experience!"
Another user had issues connecting it with their other devices, writing: "They're pretty good, but don't connect with Bluetooth speakers."
An additional user added: "Another excellent Alexa product. Sturdy design and looks great in the office. Very good sound quality and is much smaller than previous models."
A fourth commented: "The sound was great for my preference. Very convenient when you have music platform account like Amazon Music or Spotify. Bluetooth is also working if you want to play with your devices."
However, they also noted a negative, adding: "The only downside in this product is you cannot use it without power connection."
