Max Verstappen's X-rated remark that saw Lewis Hamilton demand F1 change at Monaco GP

Seven-time world champion can take a sigh of relief as lawmakers appear to have heeded his counsel ahead of Sunday's This comes after both he and rival didn't hold back their opinions about the 2024 race, with the latter's tirade being particularly unfiltered.

Last year's Monaco GP infamously turned lacklustre after a red flag in the opening lap led to an early pit stop. This resulted in practically the entire fleet running on a single set of tyres for most of the race and removed much of the drama fans love.

Although the circuit is celebrated for its beauty and historical significance, the slow pace and scant overtaking opportunities often result in a tedious spectacle. And the 2024 edition of the race was one of the worst examples of that very stigma.

's Hamilton, who was with at the time, voiced the need for change. However, his was a mild sentiment compared to Verstappen's blunt outburst.

The reported how Verstappen couldn't contain his annoyance during the race and was heard saying over team radio: "F*** me, this is really boring. Should have brought my pillow."

The gripes didn't end post-race, either, as the Dutchman lamented: "We are driving literally half-throttle on the straights, in a higher gear than you would normally do, four seconds off the pace. That's not really racing."

He later described the race weekend as "really cool" but called for changes to be made. Hamilton echoed his sentiments, labelling the race somewhat dull and proposing one specific alteration.

"It was non-eventful. Everyone drove so slowly," he said. "It didn't matter what tyre you were on. We were driving seconds off the pace.

"I don't know what it was like watching, but I am sure people were falling asleep. I can only imagine. We have to find ways of spicing it up a bit more, maybe three mandatory stops?"

Following the drivers' feedback, organisers have now mandated two pit stops for this year's event. And while it may not quite be the three stops Hamilton suggested, it's evident the powers that be are still aiming to inject more excitement into proceedings.

Drivers will be required to use three different tyre compounds in Monte Carlo, with the circuit's tight turns aiding in preserving tyre condition. Additionally, teams will receive an extra set of full wet tyres, increasing their total to three, to prepare for potential rain during the race.

Hamilton, 40, secured fourth place in qualifying for Sunday's race but incurred a three-place grid penalty for blocking Verstappen in Q1. On the other hand, is eyeing his second victory of the season after snatching pole position from in the final moments on Saturday.
