Man Utd's 'mental' issue claims as players' true feelings on Ruben Amorim clear

Manchester United stars are reportedly still rallying behind boss Ruben Amorim, despite claims that his gameplan is being disregarded during matches. The Reds face Sunderland this weekend with the heat intensifying on Amorim, following a rocky start to the season marked by defeats to Arsenal and Manchester City, and last weekend's 3-1 loss at Brentford.

In his pre-match press conference, Amorimfirmly stated he had no intention of stepping down from his role at United, despite whispers suggesting he might quit before being sacked. Regardless of whether or not Amorim was considering walking away, the upcoming match against the Black Cats is undeniably crucial.

Ahead of the game, journalist David Ornstein provided some insight into the mood within the United camp regarding Amorim and his squad. Speaking to NBC Sports, Ornstein revealed that the majority of players continue to back Amorim.

However, there seems to be an understanding that if United were to concede in recent matches, they're 'not doing what they were told to do' under him. This defiance is thought to stem from a 'psychological or mental' issue within the team.

Addressing the string of disappointing results, Amorim told reporters that he needed to confront the situation head-on. "It's normal," he maintained when questioned about the mounting pressure.

"You cannot run away from the results and then you have the baggage from last season. It's going to be a really tough match (vs Sunderland).

"They are doing really well and when you see the games, they draw with one less player and then they win in the final play against Brentford. The details are changing a lot, so we need to pay attention to that.

"It's a team that plays really well, a clear system, 4-3-3, with a lot of rotations on the side of the pitch. They are confident.

"So it is clear we will be under pressure. We have had some moments.

"During these six games during this season, we are not always the same team in small things, more in the way we play. All the effort that we put in, we put in the maximum in every single thing.

"It is not the same in different matches. We have to find the balance."
