Inside Scrubs cast lives from 21-year age-gap romance to Hollywood heartbreak

Scrubs, the beloved American hospital comedy, is set for a comeback, with fans eager to see their favourite characters back in action. The show, which once pulled in nearly 16 million viewers, has been slated for a revival in ABC's 2025-2026 season.

Several original cast members, including Zach Braff and Donald Faison, known for their on-screen bromance as J.D. and Turk, as well as Sarah Chalke, the romantic lead, are confirmed to return. They'll be reuniting under the guidance of series creator Bill Lawrence, who also had a hand in creating Ted Lasso.

Bill Lawrence expressed his enthusiasm to Variety, saying: "Scrubs means so very much to me," and "So excited for the chance to get the band back together."

It's been 15 years since the final episode of Scrubs aired, leaving fans wondering what the cast has been up to, from surprising age-gap romances involving Hollywood stars to dramatic physical changes.

Zach Braff - J.D.

Post-Scrubs, Braff has pursued directing, with credits like Wish I Was Here alongside Kate Hudson and the 2017 film Going in Style featuring Morgan Freeman.

Now at 50, Zach maintains a close relationship with his former co-star Donald Faison, who played Turk. The pair frequently post photos together and have been hosting the podcast Fake Doctors, Real Friends since 2020.

Zach's romantic endeavours made the news when he was linked to Florence Pugh, 29, famed for her role alongside Harry Styles and Olivia Wilde in Don't Worry Darling. Despite their significant 21-year age difference, the couple managed to keep their split in August 2022 private to sidestep any social media backlash.

Christa Miller - Jordan Sullivan

Christa is wedded to Scrub's producer Bill Lawrence. Now aged 61, she's appeared in two more of Bill's projects, Cougar Town and the comedy series Shrinking.

The mother-of-three frequently posts family photos on Instagram and maintains a close bond with co-star Zach Braff.

Donald Faison - Chris Turk

Donald, also recognised as Chris Turk, had already won over fans before his memorable role in Scrubs, due to his performances in Clueless and Remember The Titans. Now 51, the actor has continued to captivate audiences with his screen appearances, including a cameo in Pitch Perfect and voicing pilot Hype Fazon in Star Wars Resistance.

Donald's personal life has experienced its fair share of highs and lows. He was initially married to Lisa Askey, with whom he shares three children: Dade, Kobe, and Kaya.

However, their marriage ended in divorce in 2005 after four years together. Tragically, Lisa passed away unexpectedly in 2017. The star found love once more and married CaCee Cobb, and they have two children together, Rocco and Wilder.

Sarah Chalke - Elliot Reid

Following the show, Sarah continued her run in medical dramas, portraying dermatologist and Ted Mosby's love interest Stella Zinman on How I Met Your Mother. The 48 year old actress was engaged to long-term partner Jamie Afifi for 16 years before they parted ways in September 2020.

They have a daughter, France, and a son, Charlie, who was diagnosed with the rare Kawasaki disease - an inflammation of the blood vessels that can lead to heart conditions - at just two years old.

Judy Reyes - Carla Espinosa

Judy Reyes, who charmed millions with her sharp wit as Carla Espinosa, secured a leading role in Lifetime's Devious Maids after Scrubs concluded. The 57 year old actress was married to Edwin M. Figueroa for 11 years before their divorce in 2008.

She's now happily settled with director partner George Valencia and together they have a daughter, Leila Rey Valencia.

Neil Flynn - The Janitor

Neil, 64, was a recognisable face on Scrubs, playing the prank-loving 'Janitor'.

After Scrubs, the star bagged a role in The Middle, which ran for nine years until 2018, and notably appeared in the NBC sitcom Abby's.

John C McGinley - Dr. Perry Cox

John already had a remarkable career before Scrubs, with roles in Point Break, Office Space and Wall Street, among others. Since hanging up his scrubs, he's starred in Burn Notice and the TV shows Chicago PD and Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Now aged 65, he shares a son named Max with his first wife Lauren Lambert, from whom he divorced in 2001. Max has Down's syndrome and John has been a relentless advocate for raising awareness about the condition.

He later married yoga instructor Nichole Kessler in 2007, and the couple have since welcomed two daughters, Billie and Kate.

Ken Jenkins - Dr. Bob Kelso

Before joining the Scrubs cast, Ken was already a well-loved figure on screen, boasting roles in Psycho, The Sum Of Fears and Last Man Standing. After Scrubs, he played Courteney Cox's father in Cougar Town, among other roles.

Now 84, Ken has enjoyed a long and happy marriage to his second wife Katharine Houghton, 77, who is the niece of Katharine Hepburn, since 1970.

Robert Maschio - Dr. Todd

Since leaving Scrubs, Robert has taken on a handful of acting roles, including a guest appearance on Cougar Town alongside his former Scrubs colleagues and a role in the TV series Bones.

However, since 2017, the former star has been making a name for himself as a real estate agent in California. Despite stepping away from the limelight, Robert regularly shares nostalgic photos from his Scrubs days on social media and appears to maintain a close relationship with his former co-stars.

Eliza Coupe - Denise 'Jo' Mahoney

Eliza Coupe portrayed Denise 'Jo' Mahoney in the final two series of Scrubs and has since appeared in popular series such as Happy Endings, Future Man, Casual and Benched.

The actress, now 44, revealed her struggle with an eating disorder that included "a sprinkle of bulimia" and compulsive "over-exercise".

She was required to join a 12-step food programme - which addresses food-related issues using the same approach as Alcoholics Anonymous.
