Hollyoaks star teases 'spectacular' 30th anniversary twist and Brookside crossover

Send Push

There's huge scenes ahead on Hollyoaks, from a Brookside crossover to a big 30th anniversary twist and a character's secret past.

Froggy actor John Middleton spilled all exclusively to The Mirror at the National Television Awards, teasing some big moments ahead. Amid drama for the Black family, and Froggy and granddaughter Clare Devine's 'feud', more chaos is set to hit the village in the coming weeks.

He revealed there's more drama between Froggy and Clare, as the pair are set to clash big time. But he also confessed one character in particular is hiding something, and Froggy 'knows all about it'.

John addressed the big Brookside comeback too for the special crossover, while he gave some snippets about what fans can expect from the 30th anniversary on the Channel 4 soap. On Clare and Froggy, he admitted: "There's a lot more to come.

"There's something very spectacular to come, you see those two clash big time." Speaking of "spectacular", he also spilled spoilers about the anniversary episodes airing later this year.

Soap legend John told us: "There's a spectacular event that I've already hinted at that's going to happen with the 30th. We are very proud of it. A lot of money has been spent on it, put it that way.

"I am peripherally involved in it but Gemma [Bissix, who plays Clare] is very involved in it." We also asked John about the Brookside crossover, and whether it might bring some of the show's viewers to Hollyoaks.

He said: "I think so, hopefully it will bring that audience in. I know it will cos that audience is still there." John also discussed what's coming up for his character, hinting at a storyline with another villager.

John told us when asked what was ahead: "A lot. Froggy in particular knows something about a character with a past they'd rather not reveal, cos it would be ruinous for their present. But Froggy knows all about it."

John also talked about taking on the role of a villain, after playing Emmerdale legend vicar Ashley Thomas for decades. His character sadly passed away in a devastating storyline in 2017 after a vascular dementia diagnosis.

John shared how different it was to be tackling a villain role in another soap. He said: "It's been fabulous. It's great playing a villain, cos writers love to write for villains, so I get such great lines.

"It's such a change form everything I have done before, vicar to villain! Apart from anything else it's a different show altogether. It's fast, it's furious, it's big, bold, brash. It's great and I am loving working with the people there. It's a great team."

Hollyoaks is available to stream on Channel 4's streaming service now, while it also airs Mondays to Wednesdays on E4 at 7PM. * Follow Mirror Celebs and TV on TikTok , Snapchat , Instagram , Twitter , Facebook , and Threads.
