Send Push

22 Kids and Counting took an emotional turn as three family members prepare to take a big step and move out of their family home with one looking to start a new life half way across the world.

The Radford family shot to fame on their Channel 5 hit reality show as they give viewers a rare insight into their busy life as a family of 24.

During tonight’s episode (3rd August), Noal took matters into his own hands and attempted to give son Daniel the final push to flee the nest.

The 26-year-old previously revealed plans to move to Australia after securing a job there, but he needed to overcome his fear of driving, which stemmed from a car accident two years prior.

Leaving home is a big change for any young person and even more so for Daniel, who seems to have changed his mind about leaving his 21 siblings behind and making the big move.

But dad Noel is keen on him getting his independence and has offered to buy him a first class ticket- with the catch that it is one-way.

Daniel expressed his desire to emigrate overseas and despite the tempting offer from his dad it doesn’t seem to be happening anytime soon.

He said: “I’d definitely like to move out at some point.” Noel has started to lose hope as he said: “It won’t happen. So far, he’s decided to go, changed his mind. He bought a ticket and then changed his mind again.”

Sue admitted: “An empty nest is something I’m definitely not something I’m looking forward to.” Noel appears to be on a different page as he jumped in and said: “I’ll be opening the door to let them out and you’ll be there trying to shut the door to keep them back.”

Including Katie, just five have left home and with Daniel the next to potentially leave, he’s not the only one looking to go as his two other siblings also announced that they are moving out.

Noel went on to say: “The kids are still at home, all the old ones because it’s easy. The cooking is done, the cleaning is done, the washing is done. It’s 24 hour care.”

However mum Sue does agree as she said: “I do feel like they are still here because they just genuinely do love having all their siblings around and having a big family.”

While having a family BBQ in the garden, Chloe admitted that it’s not easy to leave the family as she said: "I missed home when I was in Plymouth, I guess there are a lot of people to miss.”

Meanwhile Sophie said: “It took me, I would say a good year to start getting used to it.” Noel jumped in: “You pretty much came home everyday to see mum.”

Sophie replied: “Yeah, I was really homesick. I was texting dad every day ‘right, pick me up, I want to come home’”.

She continued: “Joe would text me like ‘what are you doing after?’ and I’d be like ‘oh, I’ve just come home for a bit’ and he’d say ‘that’s not your home anymore’."

In an emotional moment, Sue was fighting back tears as she explained: “I do love having them here. An empty nest is definitely not something that I’m looking forward to.”
