As the festive season approaches, railway stations across the country are witnessing a heavy rush of passengers. To control this rush and ensure safe and smooth travel for passengers, Indian Railways has taken a major step. In view of the upcoming Diwali and Chhath Puja 2025, the Railways has decided to temporarily suspend the sale of platform tickets at 15 major stations across the country, including Delhi and Mumbai. The Railways states that this decision has been taken solely for crowd control and safety, to prevent unnecessary crowding on platforms and facilitate passengers boarding and alighting trains.

The rule will remain effective till October 28!

According to the Railways, the ban on platform ticket sales will remain in effect until October 28, 2025. However, platform tickets will be issued to senior citizens, sick passengers, children, and women passengers requiring assistance. This means that passengers who cannot travel without the help of a family member will not face any inconvenience. The Railway Board stated in its directive that this step is necessary to control crowds on station premises during the festive season.

Platform tickets will not be available at these stations!

This rule has already been implemented at major Delhi railway stations: New Delhi, Old Delhi, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Anand Vihar Terminal, and Ghaziabad. In the Mumbai region, platform ticket sales will also be prohibited at busy stations like CSMT, Dadar, LTT (Lokmanya Tilak Terminus), Thane, Kalyan, and Panvel from October 16, 2025. The railways has urged passengers to plan their travels in advance and avoid unnecessary crowding on station premises.

Hold created for 7000 passengers at New Delhi Railway Station

In addition, the Railways has completed construction of a permanent holding area at New Delhi Railway Station to enhance passenger convenience during the festive season. This area, located towards Ajmeri Gate, is designed to accommodate approximately 7,000 passengers at any given time. In case of increased congestion, passengers can be held here for a short period of time, preventing chaos and jostling on the platform.
