Mumbai: A dedicated Women and Child Counseling Cabin was inaugurated on Thursday at the Mumbai Central Government Railway Police (GRP) Station. This initiative, aimed at providing a sensitive and secure environment for preliminary inquiries, was made possible with the support of the Rotary Club of Mumbai, Bay View.
"Mumbai’s bustling railway stations, magnets for people from across the country, often become the first point of arrival for women and children who have lost contact with their families, gone missing, or fled difficult circumstances. Many children from neighboring towns also find themselves wandering in the railway areas, placing them at risk of exploitation or becoming lost in the crowd" said an official.
"To address these concerns, the Mumbai Railway Police have established special teams dedicated to locating and rescuing unaccompanied women and children found in railway zones. These individuals receive timely assistance and, following appropriate legal procedures, are reunited with their families or guardians" he added.
According to GRP, newly inaugurated counseling cabin provides a confidential and secure space for police personnel to conduct sensitive preliminary inquiries, ensuring dignity and care for the vulnerable.
The project was spearheaded by key members of the Rotary Club of Mumbai, including President Sonali Shah, Vice President Mandar Nirgudkar, Past President Rajni Barstia, and Vidya Morzani, who played a vital role in bringing the initiative to fruition.
