Cricket legend Brian Lara has taken to Instagram to share his thoughts on reported decision to retire from Test cricket. Amid speculation surrounding Kohli's future in the longest format of the game, Lara posted a reassuring message, stating, "Test cricket needs Virat!! He is going to be persuaded. He is NOT going to retire from Test cricket. @virat.kohli is going to average above 60 for the remainder of his Test career."
Reports had emerged that Virat Kohli had informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) of his intention to retire from Test cricket, citing a desire to move on from the format. However, the BCCI has urged him to reconsider, especially with the crucial England tour looming.
According to sources, the BCCI plans to use a highly influential figure to persuade Kohli to reconsider his decision. A meeting between Kohli and this figure could take place before the Test squad is picked, expected around May 23. The board is keen to retain Kohli's services, given his immense contribution to Indian cricket.
