Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): A retired woman bank manager was allegedly duped of Rs. 6.24 lakh by a caller on pretext of issuing credit card in Tilhari locality of the city.
Chaitali Mitra (69) retired bank manager in her complaint to the police stated she received a mobile phone call on April 25, 2025 wherein the caller asked her whether she is retired manager of PNB, and when she confirmed, the caller told she is eligible for the credit card of PNB and read out benefits of the credit card.
Then the caller made a video call but his face was not visible to her (the complainant). Soon her name and address was displayed on the mobile screen where the caller asked her to correct it if there were any mistakes and change the position of her photograph.
On finding the details incorrect, the complainant changed the address and her name and entered the PIN code, the police said.
The caller told her that the PIN code was incorrect and asked her to correct it. Subsequently the complainant was informed that her credit card verification was complete and the card would be delivered to her address.
On April 27, 2025, the complainant attempted to open the PNB One app on her mobile phone, but it failed to open, displaying a message stating that her account had been blocked due to multiple login attempts.
Following this, she received a message instructing her to uninstall and reinstall the PNB One app, which she did.
After the app was reinstalled the complainant found Rs. 1.24 lakh and 5 lakh were withdrawn from her saving account on April 26, 2025 through IMPS mode.
The police have registered a case under section 318 (4) of BNS in the Gorabazar police station.
