In the year 2002, Anupam Kher made his debut as a director with the film 'Om Jai Jagdish'. This film, which had big actors like Waheeda Rehman, Anil Kapoor, Abhishek Bachchan, Fardeen Khan, Mahima Chaudhary, and Urmila Matondkar, flopped so badly that Anupam never directed again. Now, after 23 years, he has brought 'Tanvi: The Great' for the audience. The story of the film is inspired by the real life of Anupam's niece, Tanvi, who is autistic. Read the review of this film without any spoilers...

Story
The story of the film is woven around Tanvi (Shubhangi Dutt), who is special. 21-year-old Tanvi, a victim of autism, lives with her mother Vidya (Pallavi Joshi). Vidya herself is an autism expert. She has to go to America for some work, so she leaves Tanvi with her maternal grandfather, Colonel Pratap Raina (Anupam Kher). Here, Tanvi learns that her father, martyr Captain Samar Raina (Karan Tacker), had a dream of hoisting the national flag on Siachen. Now, how does Tanvi fulfill this dream? How does she bond with her grandfather? This is the story of the film.
Acting
Acting is the real strength of this film. Shubhangi's work is commendable. Seeing her in any frame, it does not seem that this is her debut. Be it an emotional scene or one showing anger, she has performed every scene very well. Anupam Kher is the strength of the film. It is fun to watch him on screen. Karan Tacker has also acted well. Apart from that, seasoned actors like Pallavi Joshi, Jackie Shroff, Arvind Swami, and Boman Irani did complete justice to their characters. Scottish actor Ian Glen and Nasser did not have much to do in the cameo.
Direction
The thinking behind this film by Anupam is very special. It was not without reason that he agreed to sit in the director's chair after 23 years. He knew that he could present this issue in the right way because he had felt it. The film inspires you to dream and make it come true. There is no doubt that he is a good actor, but as a director, Anupam still needs to work on many things. All the weaknesses of the film are due to Anupam's contribution.
Despite having a good story and strong actors, the film becomes too slow in some places. While some emotional scenes are so good that tears come to your eyes, there are some scenes in which you cannot believe how this can happen. Some scenes also seem slow and dragged.
The VFX is very weak in the entire film. Indeed, this is not science fiction, but an emotional film. But if such scenes are a part of your film, then they should have been better. Imagine a truck falling into a ditch, catching fire, and the public laughing at that scene. There are some such funny VFX.
Music
The songs of the film make it long and slow. The lyrics are raw but awkward. The meaning of the songs is good, but the rhyme is a bit different. Listening to the songs, it feels at some places that the film is for children. The song 'Sena ki Jai..' seemed a bit better. In the climax of the film, there is another version of this song whose lyrics are, 'Apni Tanvi ki Jai Jai Ho Jaye..'. I will not say anything about this.
Watch or not
The children should be shown this once. If you also want to watch a light comedy, emotional and family film, then you can watch it. Some scenes are far from reality, be prepared for them.
