Jaya Kishori: Many things in society are believed to be true when heard, while they have no solid basis. One such thing is that girls should not touch pickles during periods, otherwise the pickles will get spoiled. Recently, well-known motivational speaker and storyteller Jaya Kishori gave her opinion on this, which was much discussed on social media. According to Jaya Kishori, now is the time to think again about these old ideas and eliminate the fear and misconceptions spread towards women.

What did Jaya Kishori say?
Responding to this question in an interview, Jaya Kishori said that there is actually no strong reason for the pickle getting spoiled by touching it. She said that in earlier times when there were no special means for cleaning, women were kept away from the kitchen for some time. But in today's time, when there are complete arrangements for cleaning, even then such things are going on, which have no solid basis left.
Jaya Kishori clearly said that many times the girls were scared that if they touched the pickle, the entire container would get spoiled. This created fear in the minds of the girls. This was a way of scaring them so that they do not do anything that could pollute the food items because earlier there was no such cleanliness and neither were there medical facilities.
She further told that earlier there were no things like pads and tampons. In such a situation, women had to face many difficulties. In old times, there was also a danger from animals, because animals could get attracted by the smell of blood. In such a situation, women were kept in a corner of the house or in a separate room, so that they could be protected.

Jaya Kishori also said that with time these traditions were presented in such an exaggerated way that women started being considered 'impure' during periods. But if thought properly, it was just a decision taken according to the needs of that time, which was later spread in the wrong way.
