Why Jagannath Temple Flag Always Waves Opposite to Wind Direction: The Jagannath temple located in Puri, Odisha is known for its unique traditions and mysteries. Every year, on the second day of Ashadh Shukla Paksha, i.e. 27th June, a grand Rath Yatra is taken out here, which attracts thousands of devotees. A major mystery associated with this temple is that the flag on the peak of the temple always flutters in the opposite direction of the wind.

This flag is changed daily because it is believed that if it is not changed even for a day, the temple may be closed for 18 years. Apart from this, the Sudarshan Chakra installed on the peak of the temple is also a unique feature, wherever it is seen, it appears to be bent in the same direction. The sound of the sea waves is not heard inside the temple premises, which makes the mysterious and mythological significance of this place even deeper.
Prayer of Hanuman Ji
According to the legend of Jagannath Temple, Lord Vishnu was getting very upset by the sound of the strong waves of the sea. This sound was disturbing his meditation and relaxation. Due to this problem, Lord Vishnu was not able to get the desired peace. When Hanuman Ji came to know about this, he immediately went to Samudra Dev and requested him to lower his voice so that Lord Vishnu could get peace.
Samudra Dev's inability
Samudra Dev said that the sound of his waves spreads due to the direction of the wind and it is not in his power to stop it. He was unable to stop the sound completely. He suggested Hanuman Ji seek help from his father Pawan Dev. Ask Pawan Dev to stop the flow of wind in the direction of the temple so that the sound does not reach inside the temple. This advice was the first step towards a solution.

Hanuman Ji's making of Vayu Chakra
Hanuman Ji explained this problem to Pawan Dev. Pawan Dev said that it is not possible to stop the wind completely, but there is a solution. He instructed Hanuman Ji to circle the temple rapidly. This speed will create a circle of wind, which will prevent normal air from entering inside the temple. Due to this Vayu Chakra, the sound of the ocean waves does not reach inside the temple, which gives peace to Lord Vishnu.
After this incident, Lord Jagannath started resting comfortably. It is believed that after this, the flag on the top of the temple always flutters opposite to the normal direction of the wind. It is said that this miracle happened due to Hanuman ji doing parikrama of the temple in the opposite direction.
