Two men have been arrested in connection with the alleged kidnapping and murder of a 23-year-old man, Ankur, after he refused to end a relationship with the sister of the main accused. The suspects, identified as Shanky alias Shivam (23) and Saurabh Kumar (20), both from Loni, are accused along with a third man, Sonu, who remains on the run.
Ankur had been missing since June 7, and his family filed a kidnapping complaint at the Loni police station, naming Shanky and Sonu as suspects. During the investigation, police detained Saurabh, who allegedly confessed to shooting Ankur multiple times and disposing of his body in the Hindon river near Garhi Kalanzari.
Shanky was arrested on June 19 during a vehicle check while attempting to flee. According to police, while being taken to recover the murder weapon and the body, Shanky tried to fire at officers and was shot in the leg in retaliation.
The motive behind the crime appears to be Ankur's refusal to end his relationship with Shanky’s sister, despite warnings. Shanky, enraged over the affair, especially as his sister's marriage had already been arranged, allegedly planned the murder with Saurabh and Sonu.
On the day of the incident, the trio lured Ankur from Loni. Saurabh posed as a stranded tractor driver and asked Ankur for a lift near Ganouli turn, after Ankur left Pahalwan Hotel. Shanky and Sonu followed in a car. Near Mevla Bhatti, they blocked Ankur’s path, forced him into the vehicle, and drove to Jawli, where Sonu and Saurabh allegedly shot him several times and brutally assaulted him.
To cover their tracks, they dumped Ankur's body in the Hindon river and burned his scooter along with their blood-stained clothes. They later returned to the scene to push the scooter further into the bushes and later disposed of it using a tractor. The suspects even monitored the river for days to ensure the body wouldn’t be found.
Police have recovered the murder weapon from Shanky and are continuing efforts to trace Sonu and recover the scooter.
