Guwahati: Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposed visit to Assam on September 8 to inaugurate India’s first bamboo-based bio-refinery at Numaligarh Refinery, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the refinery site in Golaghat district to review the progress of the project.
As part of his visit to Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL), the Chief Minister held a review meeting with NRL officials, state ministers, MPs, and MLAs. The meeting focused on assessing the status of the bamboo-based ethanol plant, which is being developed at an investment of ₹4,000 crore. Once completed, it will be the country’s first bio-refinery based on bamboo as a feedstock.
During the meeting, Sarma also reviewed the ongoing expansion of NRL, in addition to preparations for the Prime Minister’s visit, during which Modi is expected to dedicate the ethanol project to the nation.
The Chief Minister also inaugurated the Dhansiri Nagar Township, a newly constructed residential complex for refinery staff.
The review meeting was attended by Agriculture Minister Atul Bora, Finance Minister Ajanta Neog, PHE Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah, Tea Tribes and Adivasi Welfare Minister Rupesh Gowala, MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, and MLAs Bhabendra Nath Bharali, Mrinal Saikia, and Biswajit Phukan, along with senior government and NRL officials.
Later, at the Bokakhat circuit house, the Chief Minister met with the security personnel injured in a recent grenade attack. He enquired about the condition of Siddhartha Borbora, Sushil Bhowmick, and Mintu Hazarika, and wished them a speedy recovery.
