Delhi jeweller's 'accidental' death turns into murder probe as affair between wife and brother-in-law emerges

Send Push
What first seemed like a tragic accident has now turned into a possible murder case. A 36-year-old jeweller from west Delhi, Karan Dev, was thought to have died from an electric shock. But days later, his wife and brother-in-law have been taken into custody, as police now suspect foul play.

On 13 July, Karan Dev’s wife rushed him to a hospital, claiming he had suffered an electric shock at home. The doctors declared him brought dead. He was later taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital for a post-mortem.

At the time, Karan’s family did not suspect anything wrong and even requested that the autopsy be skipped. However, due to Karan’s young age and unclear cause of death, the police decided to go ahead with the post-mortem.

On 16 July, Karan’s brother Kunal approached the police with suspicions about his brother’s death. After a preliminary inquiry, police registered a case, now including murder.

According to officers, “Based on the inquest and evidence collected, we registered a case under relevant sections, including murder.”

Investigators noticed that Karan’s wife, who had appeared panicked at the hospital, gave statements that didn’t completely add up. Forensic and circumstantial evidence also pointed to the possibility that the electrocution might not have been accidental.

The police have now detained both the wife and her brother for questioning.

Love affair angle under probe

As per a TOI report, a police source revealed that Karan allegedly suspected his wife of having an extramarital affair. This angle is now being looked into as a possible motive behind the suspected murder. However, the police are also exploring other motives.

Investigations are ongoing, and more details are expected to emerge in the coming days.
