'No Law Was Broken' Vaani Kapoor Defends Diljit Dosanjh Amid Sardaar Ji 3's Hania Aamir Row

A major debate broke out across social media after Sardaar Ji 3, the upcoming comedy film starring Diljit Dosanjh, was officially banned from release in India. The controversy stemmed from Diljit sharing screen space with a Pakistani actress, which led to a wave of online backlash.

While a section of the internet trolled Diljit and questioned his choices, a large number of fans and users stood by him, defending his right to work freely as an artist. Amid the heated reactions, actress Vaani Kapoor also came forward in support of Diljit. She stated that the actor hasn't violated any laws and called out the unnecessary hate being directed his way.

In an interview with NDTV, Vaani said, “I am assuming his film was shot before the atrocious attack, and I am assuming as a producer his money must have been stuck. I guess some 100 technicians were involved in making the film. The situation was different when the film was shot.”

She added, “I don't think he was meaning to disrespect the nation. He is a global star... He is looked up to globally. He has taken measures as per whatever he thought was suitable to him. But I don't think any laws have been broken, right?”

The Sardaar Ji 3 Controversy

The controversy surrounding Sardaar Ji 3 erupted after it was revealed that the film featured Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in the lead opposite Diljit Dosanjh. In the wake of the Pahalgam attacks and India's subsequent military response, Operation Sindoor, the film was banned in India as part of a broader stance against cultural exchange with Pakistan.

The backlash was swift, with several Indian celebrities, such as Mika Singh, Abhijeet Bhattacharya, Aditya Narayan, and Rupali Ganguly, openly criticising Diljit for collaborating with a Pakistani artist during such a sensitive time. Meanwhile, veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah came out in support of Diljit, calling for a more nuanced understanding of the situation.

Amid the controversy, several film associations have reportedly demanded a complete and indefinite ban on Diljit Dosanjh’s future concerts, films and music releases in India, but the government has not issued any formal statement.

On the work front, Diljit recently wrapped Border 2 opposite Varun Dhawan and Sunny Deol, and the film is slated for release next year on January 23.
