United's route into Europe's elite competition would be via the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur just five days later.

With this in mind, it's expected that the squad will be rotated for the clash with Chelsea. Mason Mount, who has started the last two Premier League games, is one player hoping to seize his opportunity and secure a spot in United's starting XI for the upcoming final.

Mount, who scored in the 4-3 defeat to Brentford earlier this month, came off the bench to net a double in the semi-final second leg against Athletic Club. His brace helped United to a 4-1 victory and a place in the final.

Despite a 2-0 loss to West Ham last weekend, Mount was back in the starting line-up and is likely to start again when he faces his former club Chelsea.

The midfielder made the move from Stamford Bridge to Old Trafford in 2023 for an initial fee of £55million, potentially rising to £60million. However, his time at United hasn't quite lived up to expectations so far.

The 26-year-old has been plagued by injuries in recent seasons, making a total of 43 appearances for United and netting four goals.

Upon his transfer to United, Transfermarkt put Mount's value at around €60million (£50.4m), roughly the sum United shelled out for him. However, his worth has gradually dwindled over the past few years.

As of March this year, his valuation stood at a mere €28million (£23.5m), marking a decrease of approximately 50 per cent. With Amorim eyeing a squad overhaul come summer, United are faced with a decision regarding Mount's future.

Selling him would likely result in the club taking a substantial hit on their initial investment, but it could also generate funds for new signings. By the time the summer transfer window rolls around, Mount will have three years left on his contract.

Of course, if he manages to secure regular playing time and regain his former form, Mount's value could start to rise again. At just 26, the midfielder is entering his prime, something he'll be keen to capitalise on.
